With a lotus flower in her hand, a long graceful neck, and eyes shaped like lotus petals—this is how Bani Thani looks, often called the Mona Lisa of India.

The golden period of the Kishangarh painting style is believed to be during the reign of Raja Savant Singh. He was not only a ruler but also a talented artist and poet. He used to write poetry under the name “Nagridas.”
Savant Singh was married to the daughter of Bhav Naresh Jaswant Singh. However, he was deeply drawn to a singer. He asked his court artist, Mordhwaj Nihal Chand, to paint her portrait. When the painting was completed, it became famous with the name “Bani Thani.” That painting became world-famous.

Interestingly, Bani Thani herself also wrote poetry under the name “Rasik Bihari.”
She was called the Mona Lisa of India by Erik Dickinson, an art historian.
