Not all stories of royalty begin with war or treasure—some begin with faith. One such tale comes from the heart of Alwar, where a powerful curse, a mysterious illness, and a divine sign led to a miracle. It is said that Karni Mata herself helped Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh recover from unbearable pain—an act that inspired the king to build a temple in her honor.
Once, Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh of Alwar went hunting. He shot an arrow at a wild boar, but the wounded boar ran away and passed over a saint’s dargah. Some drops of blood from the boar fell on the shrine. The saint got angry and cursed that whoever caused this blood to fall would fall seriously ill. Soon after, the king began experiencing severe stomach pain.

Despite treatments by doctors and healers, the pain didn’t go away. Then, one of the charans in his army suggested that the king pray to Karni Mata. While doing so, the king saw a white eagle sitting on the palace walls. This white eagle is believed to be a symbol of Karni Mata. After seeing the eagle, the king’s stomach pain was cured. To express his gratitude, Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh built a Karni Mata temple in Alwar.
