You’ve probably heard the song Kesariya Balam while traveling through Rajasthan—whether you were exploring Mehrangarh Fort, Amer Fort, or Sajjangarh Fort. When you clicked pictures or made a reel, most likely you used this song in the background. Kesariya Balam is actually the state song of Rajasthan. It tells the emotional story of a wife who sends a heartfelt message to her husband while waiting for him to return.

The voice that gave life to this timeless song is that of Allah Jilai Bai. Born in Bikaner, she was an expert in classical styles like Dadra and Thumri. In 1982, she was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. Later, in 1988, the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Academy recognized her for her incredible contribution to folk music and the performing arts.
