Now your body heat can help you save on electricity bills.
A researcher from IIT Mandi has developed a device that can convert body heat into electric energy and even charge your mobile phone. This researcher has created a thermoelectric module using silver telluride nanowires, and the study has been published in a German journal called Angewandte Chemie. The research was led by Dr. Ajay Soni, Associate Professor at the School of Physical Sciences, IIT Mandi.

According to him, the moment this device comes in contact with the human body, it starts generating electricity. So, whether you keep your phone in your pocket or hold it in your hand, it can easily get charged—just from your body heat. Moreover, if the bonnet of a car is hot and this device is placed on it, it can also convert that heat into energy. For context, the thermoelectric principle behind this technology was first discovered in 1821 by physicist Thomas Seebeck.
